On Tuesday, November 4th, staff and Councillors from Shenley Church End Parish Council spent a busy day volunteering at the Willen Hospice distribution warehouse in Kiln Farm.

Our day involved diving straight into the various tasks around the warehouse. We started with tackling the massive volume of generous donations, sorting through bags and boxes to prepare items for all of Willen's shops across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas, including the recently opened shop in Stony Stratford. Two of our Councillors even rolled up their sleeves to help assemble furniture that was going straight into the shop next door!

It was an incredibly rewarding day for everyone involved. Leaving the warehouse, we felt a genuine sense of having supported the important, compassionate work delivered by the entire Willen Hospice team and a better understanding of the scope of what Willen do daily.

The True Impact of Volunteering

The work done by corporate volunteer groups like us provides crucial fundraising support for Willen.  A volunteer team of 10 can typically help generate between £3,000 and £5,000 through their efforts in a single day. This revenue is vital, directly allowing the hospice to continue providing free palliative end-of-life care and support to patients and their families. It was also a fantastic team-building experience for volunteers.

We extend a huge and heartfelt thank thank you to all the staff and dedicated volunteers at the Willen Hospice distribution centre for hosting us and for their kind and friendly welcome throughout the day.
