While our swifts have flown south to Africa for the winter, you can help ensure their future when they return to our skies next spring.

The swift, a bird synonymous with long summer days and a captivating aerial display, is in trouble. Across the UK, the swift population is in steep decline, and the primary reason is a loss of their nesting sites. For generations, these incredible birds have relied on the nooks and crannies of our buildings—tucked under roof tiles and within eaves—to raise their young. However, modern construction methods and renovations have increasingly sealed up these vital nesting spots, leaving the swifts with nowhere to go.

The good news is that we can reverse this trend, and you can play a crucial role. Our parish is taking action to provide new homes for these wonderful birds. We are offering free uPVC swift nest boxes, complete with professional installation, to residents in our community. These specially designed boxes provide a safe and durable alternative for swifts, giving them a much-needed place to breed successfully.

If you live in Crownhill, Grange Farm, Medbourne, Oakhill, Oxley Park, Shenley Church End, or Shenley Wood, you are eligible for one of these free boxes. By taking part, you're not just helping a single bird; you're contributing to the survival of an entire species.

To get more details on how you can help these beautiful birds thrive with one of these free boxes, please email reports@shenleychurchend-pc.gov.uk.
